Farming Oliver Father's Day Card

Since my dad is retired and lives on 10 acres of land with chickens and goats...I tend to make him a lot of farming themed cards.  While my dad was working...I was also the daughter who always bought my dad a new tie, lol.  This year I thought I would do something different...but then I fell in love with the Herbs and Honey paper and that was the end of that.

I love this color combo and it reminds me a lot of Nook and Pantry.  I can tell that this is gonna be one of my new favorite paper packs.

One the embellishment packs that coordinates with this paper pack are these fun little bags.  I thought it would be perfect to put my dad's gift card in there.  The bag was a bit longer than the gift card, so I sewed a bit on the bottom to get the card to be where I wanted it.

I didn't really get my dad a Starbuck's was just the empty gift card that I had available at the time I took the picture.  Brent and I also signed the card on the blank white banner strip.

I used Mojo Monday Sketch #348 for my card.

I hope you all have a wonderful's almost the weekend!!

Welcome Baby Boston Smith!

Sorry it's taken me a bit to update on here, but Bean ended up coming early and I went into labor on Monday, June 30, 2014.  I wanted to have Bean early, but I was a little disappointed that I didn't get just a little bit more time to get stuff my last day of work was Friday, June 27 and my due date wasn't until Tuesday, July 8.  I went grocery shopping that weekend and bought a ton of food to make freezer meals.  I only got to cook half of them before I went into labor.

In the hospital parking garage with my Starbucks.
I woke up at about 3:30am and my contractions were about 15 minutes apart.  I figured I still had quite awhile to go, so I went back to sleep.  I woke up again and at 5:15am, my water broke.  I called the Birthing Center and the nurse was kind enough to tell me to shower and eat breakfast.  I'm glad that I took her advice and even made Brent stop at Starbucks before I checked-in, lol.

Mommy and Boston
Having Emily and Michael (my much younger siblings) in my life taught me what it would be like with kids.  So taking care of kids, crying, dirty diapers, etc. has never scared me...but giving birth is what I have always feared.  My maternal grandma and my mom both did not have good deliveries or recoveries.

Daddy and Boston
I was fortunate to have a good experience and I'm very grateful and blessed.  I always thought I would be one of those who were in labor for 30 hours and then they would decide to do a C-section.  With Boston coming early, I was able to give natural birth and I was only in labor for 15 hours total.  Which is still a long day, but great for a first time baby.

He almost always sleeps with an arm, if not both arms up.
Brent and I still hadn't decided on a name for Bean, so we waited until he was born to name him.  Our top choices were Dominick, Bryce, and Jordan.  Brent also liked the name Boston, but thought it might be weird, since we have no ties to the city.  Once Bean was born, Brent said, he looks like a Boston to me and I agreed.

Boston sleeping like an angel.
We've been home for 3 weeks now and fortunately Brent's been able to be off with me as well.  Brent goes back to work at the end of the month and I don't go back until late October.  So far Boston has been a great baby...isn't colicky and sleeps about 3 hours at a time.  I didn't sleep or eat well as a baby, so I had no high expectations for Boston.  I feel really blessed to have such a sweet baby.

Our newest Canuck fan!
The last few weeks have been quite busy with all of my family and Brent's family taking turns being up here and visiting the baby.  During this time, Brent and I also celebrated our 6 year anniversary.  I was very excited to be able to drink caffeine and eat sushi!  My FIL was kind enough to watch Boston for a couple of hours for us to have dinner.

I have a few more posts scheduled this summer of cards that I made prior to going into labor.  After that, I won't have any crafty posts for awhile.  I plan to spend some time down in Portland with my family and my in-laws, so I will be away from my craft room.  But I will try to get in a few more posts about Boston here and there, since I know not everyone has Facebook.

I do post my pictures publicly on Facebook, so if any of you would like to see more pictures of Boston, you can by clicking here.  I post my pictures publicly, so you don't need a Facebook account to view these photos.

As for me, aside from being a bit sore, I am doing great.  I recovered much better than I ever anticipated.  Non-pregnancy related, I did hurt my knee some how.  Every time I kneel down and put pressure on my right knee, it really hurts.  I might need to get that looked at if it doesn't stop hurting soon.

It did take Boston awhile to open his eyes.  He still doesn't open them as much as they are closed, but he's starting to get there.  My friend and co-worker Tricia came over to visit us and he opened his eyes long enough for us to take a picture.

Initially, Boston lost quite a bit of weight, so we decided to half formula and half breast milk.  Right now, it's working great for us and Boston has been doing great on the weight gain so far.  I also decided to pump exclusively, so I've been pumping about every 3 hours, except I do skip a 6 hour stretch in the middle of the night so I can sleep.  And this has been great, as Brent has been able to help feed and bond with Boston as well.

Well, I hope you all have been enjoying the summer so far!  I can't wait to see what adventures we have for the rest of my maternity leave!  Hope you all have a great hump day!

So Proud of You Grad Girl Card

One of my best friends, Catherine, graduated this spring with her PhD!  Though I've been busy with getting ready for Bean, I am so excited and happy for her!  It's also been nice to have more time to talk to her too since she's finished school.

I don't have any graduation stamps of my own I settled on this darling A la mode from My Favorite Things.  The A la modes are my favorite line from them.  I'm thinking either Emily or Ruby for my future graduate?!?

Nordstroms is one of Catherine's favorite places to shop, so I got her a gift card to there.  Her college colors are blue and bluff, so I pulled together a mixture of my Basic Grey paper and added some black to match the gown.  Though it's a bit nontraditional, I think it all came together well.

I used Sweet Sunday Sketch #221 for my card.

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful's almost the weekend!
