Willow with Cookies

Yesterday was my step-mom's birthday and today is my friend Aaron's birthday. I was a total slacker and didn't mail them their cards til Friday...but I don't think Anna or my dad reads my blog. :) I haven't played with this image since last September, so it needed some dusting off.

Paper: My Minds Eye
Stamps, Whiff of Joy, sentiment is Amuse
Nestabilities, Prima Flowers, PTI Buttons, Twines, Copics, Crystal Stickles, and Rhinestones

Thank you again for all the thoughts, prayers, and positive juju! I am ready to share with you what has been going on. After we got back from Vancouver, we found out that the company we work for is going to lay off people here in Washington. In all of the 27 years they've been in business, this is the first lay off they've ever done.

There were state laws that passed in January that impacted our business in Washington. Our company decided to do something a little different and offered a voluntary lay off first. If people were looking for a life change, this would be a good transition time and of course will get a great severance package.

Brent and I both work at the Corporate Office, which also supports the other 4 states and 1 province (soon to be in British Columbia) that we operate in. Since both of our jobs are specialized and not easily replaced, we thought our odds of not getting laid off were good. I was a bit more worried about my job, since typically Training Departments are the first ones to go. But with us expanding in Vancouver, BC and launching new loan products, my department is keeping very busy.

I am very happy to say that we had enough people who volunteered for the lay off that we didn't have to do an involuntary lay off. For now, Brent and I have made it through. But unfortunately, Brent's department lost a person and he will now be working longer hours and more days. The overtime and money will be nice, but I hope it doesn't get too tiring for him.

We are very proud to work for a company that has been nominated 7 times in the Washington's CEO Best Companies to Work For. We have also won 1st place the last two years and this year, my department won Department of the Year. Though this has been a trying time, we hope to look at better times in the future.

I again want to tell you all, I truly do appreciate all of my viewers (even the lurkers) and the time you take to peek at my blog. Everyone have a great Monday...and I'm very happy to say that it's back to work for me...

  2. Another sweet card put together perfectly.

SO glad all is right in your world. It's scary when companies as established as yours have to lay folks off.

  10. Your card is wonderful Sparkle! Love the colors you chose!

And your news is a relief. I'm sorry people had to take a voluntary layoff but it's a great solution to a difficult problem. Like the others, I hope it's enough for the company to weather the storm and hopefully you won't have to worry about your job for a good long time! Don't forget to give Brent some extra TLC for all his extra hours.

Who'd a thunk one would be relieved and happy to GO to work? But I totally understand. Have a great day!

  43. These are tough times indeed, Sparks, and I don't care what they say about the Great Recession being over, 'cause it's not. We're on furloughs at UC ourselves, and both my husband and I work for UCR. Ugh. But we have jobs, and that's what matters. So glad you and Brent have escaped the chopper.
